Is There Any Hope for the Rest of Us???

Did you hear that my healthy hero Dr. Oz, was diagnosed with a precancerous colon polyp?  If Dear Dr. Oz who can do no wrong nutritionally can get a precancerous growth, how the heck are the rest of us gonna stay healthy???

Dr. Oz - My Constipation Guru

I’m back on the relatively healthy eating bandwagon, after slightly falling off at the end of my gluten free food foray.  I’m happy to hear that Dr. Oz will be ok, but this news is slightly disconcerting.  Last year I made one of those green shakes that he was raving about on his show.  I couldn’t make it past the first sip.  So if he’s been subsisting on that kinda healthy thing and STILL gets sick, I’m in big trouble…time to lay off the cheeseballs…

Speaking of health, I’ve made an appointment with a new endocrinologist for late Sept. She was kind enough to email me back and said that she also has Hashimoto’s — fingers crossed that it will be an informative visit, unlike my last one….

P.S.  Talk about unhealthy, have you seen the recent beach picture of Kelly Ripa?  eeeeegads – the girl’s skin and bones.  So very sad :-(

crossing my fingers for you on the new endo!!! :-)

Kelly Ripa was pretty before she “hollywoodized” herself with the overtanning, overblonding and undereating stuff…

I think this just goes to show you that while many things are preventative, and you should do everything you can to take care or yourself, there are just no guarantees.

I saw that picture of Kelly Ripa! On the celebrity site I visited they were touting her as being more ripped than her husband. But you’re right. Skin, bones and a little sinew.

It could be that Dr. Oz is ok BECAUSE of the way he eats. Maybe if it was someone else in the same circumstances with an inferior diet, the outcome would not have been so good.

I only say this because people said that to me in 1996 when I was told that I had severe endometriosis. Every doctor was very surprised that I had no pain … they said that it may be due to diet and lifestlye.

Anyway, I hope your appt goes well with the new DR. I know how frustrating it can be …

Kelly is very different than she used to be. Even her teeth have been done. She had longer teeth or bigger teeth or something before. She got caught up in the hollywood thing.

Good luck to you with your healthy eating!

Maybe you should post pictures of your meals online for a week so we can all see what it is you consider healthy (or not healthy eating). Plus, I’d like to see how many cheeseballs you really eat in a week.

  15. Herding Cats says:

Poor Dr. Oz! Are these types of things at all genetic? I love him, and you are right – totally disconcerting.

  16. Hmm. I think that being healthy equates to moderation and finding a happy balance. When one stresses about their health, it generally has an opposite effect.

While I know living a healthy lifestyle helps, I believe whether we are actually healthy or not is largely genetic. Which may explain Dr Oz’ recent diagnosis ?

  19. AngelCel says:

Eating a healthy diet and taking regular exercise may change the odds but our genetic make-up and outside environmental factors will still influence whether or not we get hit by a health whammy. Remember runner Jim Fixx, credited with having started the whole jogging phenomenon in the States? He died of a heart attack.

So yes, we should try to do the right things but certainly not get fanatical and make ourselves miserable about it. We simply don’t know what tomorrow will bring.

I see it as a bonus that you’ll be talking to someone this month who actually has Hashimoto’s. There is nothing like actually suffering from something to focus the mind. I imagine that will be a very useful appointment and I hope it all goes well for you.

Yikes – that is depressing! What’s the point of giving up the most delicious things in the world if injesting only healthy things will not allow you to be healthy??

I’m so sad about Kelly. I really love her personality most days…but she is really disturbing looking. But speaking of delicious things…Her husband on the other hand, my oh my-he is a healthy looking man.

To me, it says that it’s not just about trying to be healthy. Everything is not preventative and we’ve got to just live! You can drink wine every day, eat donuts and still live to be really old. Or you can get cancer very young – not caused at all by cheese balls or by not drinking your green drink. Sometimes, we become what we think about the most. Maybe he was so focused on avoiding disease that disease was his focus. It’s all theory, of course, but just do what you can and know that no one is truly an expert.

  26. I don’t think there’s any hope for any of us, really. I think all we can do is the best we can do, and hope for the best. My Papaw lived to be 88, and he smoked every day of his life, enjoyed his whiskey, and ate whatever he wanted to. Sure, cancer got him in the end. But he had it for about a year. I thought that was a LONG life, all things considered.

  27. Megan says:

I don’t watch Dr. Oz {or really any talk shows} but glad to hear he’s going to be ok!!

I hope that this new endo can give you some answers, as I said already. ;0)
