…but do you find it odd all the coverage devoted to the death of Martin Short’s wife today?? It’s on the front page on my Yahoo homepage and just about every other news source.
….and do you find it further odd that the writers keep referring to her as “Martin Short’s wife” instead of using her name in the headline?
I should hope when I kick the bucket that the newspapers at least have the courtesy of using my name, rather than “MB’s wife.” I also hope that I can come up with an accomplishment or two before then…

I have not checked out much of the news tonight, so I missed this one.
That idea bothers me as well. Several years ago, I went to a police captain’s funeral. He and his wife and grandson had all died accidentally. Unfortunately, the service was all about him. Pictures, the police pomp and ceremony, the preaching was focused on his life–with an “oh yeah, grandson and wife will be missed as well.”
It was really a troubling experience and I am sure the family was disappointed.

I agree with you. I think it’s kind of disrespectful.
‘Martin Short’ – I couldn’t picture him at all so I’ve just looked him up and he’s still only vaguely familiar. I gather, from what I’ve just read, that his wife was an actress – just apparently not important enough to warrant the use of her own name in death. It’s sad and yes, disrespectful, when someone is treated as nothing more than an adjunct to someone else.
As for the blanket coverage – we’re back in the territory of why celebrities matter so very much to us. It is odd. I also gather that it’s Slow News Season right now (although there is the small matter of those monsoon floods ‘over there’) so that probably explains a lot.

i missed this news but then i miss most “news” instead forcing myself to focus on what i consider newsworthy which is hard if relying on media from most sources…totally hear you on the bizarreness of it and reminding us to focus on what matters in lives and how we remember/refer to those who have passed…

I’m so out of the loop here on the second day of school that I only understand “Martin Short” in this post. It’s like the whole thing was in a foreign language to me except “Martin Short…” Oh well. I guess I will rejoin society in mid-September.
