There is something to be said for the living the life of a Rastafarian.
This weekend we attended Floydfest in the aptly named Floyd, VA. It is NOT Pink Floyd-fest. Somebody asked me that earlier today, assuming it was and that I was “much cooler than they thought” (uh, talk about a backhanded compliment!) Hey now, I do own The Wall.
One of the reasons I was clued in that there were many Rastafarians in attendance was that at the food vending area, there was a booth called “Pasta-far-i”
(most of the other attendees were “upscale hippies” and plain boring people like us
)
We saw lots of amazingly cool folk, like this guy, who made a pendant for VC with this “guillotine-like” contraption. He would hit the three bells and chant before “releasing” the guillotine to punch the pendant. (now there’s a fun job – maybe I can interview for that the next time I have a longer than 8 minute interview) VC’s pendant featured the Eye of Horus on one side and and Juggling Court Jester on the other.
Which reminds me that the main purpose of our visit was that VC would be street performing.
People were very laid back despite the 95 degree temps and camping within inches of each other for three night’s in a row. (We just headed up for the day) …. Some would be walking along and spontaneously break out in dance. There were official “compost people” posted near the trash cans to make sure everything was sorted properly. (Well, I’m not sure that that was “Rasta” but it was very earthy)…People were walking around in bare feet covered in dust but didn’t seem to have a care in the world.
“Type A” anals like me and MB could take some cues from these people. We are always stressed out thinking what the next day will hold. That didn’t appear to be the case with the fun-loving people we saw. Oh, to be able to live like that! I swear one of these days I’m gonna toss the computer and simplify my life. Have you ever looked at people who are able to always walk around with a smile and sense of peace and wondered why you can’t do that???

P.S. I was not very “Rasta” while preparing this post. Although I’ve heard that self-hosted WordPress is “God’s Gift to Blogging” (just made that up hee hee) — photos have become a huge headache for me, so you will probably be seeing more photo-free posts until I regain my patience, which could potentially be in the year 2015.
P.P.S. If anyone hosts their photos on photobucket and can tell me how to get vertical pics to post vertically instead of horizontally, I’d love your help. This whole “hosting photos elsewhere thing” is a huge PITA.
P.P.P.S. Thank you to the 7 readers who have been continuing to read my blog over the summer.
P.P.P.P.S. Still time to get some beyoot-iful skin!

That ‘fest’ would stress me out. I dont like camping. At all. I dont like peeing outside. At all. I dont like not showering. At all.
Yeah. I would have been a big Debbie Downer.
VC looks GREAT doing his thang!!!
Blessings-
Amanda

I’m still reading !!! You just moved your blog at the same time I moved to another state … aaannnndddd my life is in turmoil so I haven’t been able to post and for some reason I can’t comment on almost everyone’s blogs … but I’m getting it sorted out one thing at a time ….
Still loving your blog
) … and it looks like a fun time … although I agree with the above about not liking the whole camping thing … I’d be a one day visitor AND I’d need to wash my feet when I got home … maybe the whole bod …
I know why those Rastafarians are all mellow like that. It’s called “drugs.” And, I’m not sure it’s the legal kind either. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that… Or that I’m advocating illegal drug use….)

you hafta host pics elsewhere for wordpress… YIKES!!
Sounds like a really cool festival. Utah really needs to step it up.
Simple life? Smiling all the time?
I could use some of that in my life.
And is VC juggling fire????

VC looks great juggling. Looks like fun. When I see people smiling all the time for no reason, I wonder what is wrong with them. I guess I’m a little twisted.

I had to send this to Meg being that she’s married to a Floyd. Too funny!
Sorry the photos have been such a PITA and I am really sorry I haven’t been around.

Looks like a lot of fun. Although I’m not much into suffering in the heat. Walking around barefoot creeps me out too. I hate dirt & debris on the bottoms of my feet. VC has some cool stuff going on in his act. Sorry, can’t help with the picture problems.

Looks like fun! I love festivals.
I host my photos on Picasa, so I can’t help you with photo issues… unless you’re looking for a new host.

There’s more than 7 of us, Rasta mama! VC is amazing, you know that, don’t you? That was a super cool event you were at this weekend.

Wow, VC looks great juggling! And FIRE! Dang, he is a brave young man.
Getting dirty is fun sometimes. I think some of us never outgrow that “little boy loving to get dirty” stage.
Oh, I clean up, but I just get dirty all over again
How did I miss that he juggles FIRE??? I am NOT the camping/outdoor festival type. Wasn’t even when I was young. Too many germs! Too much heat!
PS I think photos are a PITA on WP, too. And I don’t even host mine somewhere else.

Impressive.
Fire juggling in 95 degrees? Wow, does he use razor sharp icicles when the temps are minus 5?

Not exactly my type of festival, but it looked like fun! At least you were surrounded by happy, laid-back people, right?!?
As for photobucket, I always edit my pictures before I upload them, but I think if you click on the edit button on the photo, you can rotate the pic.

Have you tried using LiveWriter to upload your pictures? I know it’s one omore step, but I haven’t had any problems uploading pics that way. Peace, Mon.
I could totally take a lesson in chillaxing from others!
Sorry, I can’t help you with the pics. I am technically illiterate!

oh wow, that looks like such a fun place to be!
I know what you mean about only 7 readers, haha. It seems like everyone just disappears over the summer. This is my first summer blogging so I’m glad to know it’s not just me
I’m new here but am your latest follower–posts like this one speak to me
I love these kinds of festivals–to me, they are what summer is all about. It’s just as you said: they serve as a reminder that life can be simplified. That sometimes it is just about the music or the event that’s unfolding and that a life without shoes can be very liberating.
Thanks for sharing and I love the photos (and also the term “pastafari”). Juggling fire sounds awesome

I’m still here!! I think people are busier with the weather being nicer. There’s so much more to do when it’s warm out. I feel guilty for being ultra-lazy while the sun is out. Once it goes down, or if it’s raining–it’s totally excusable though.
I love things like that fair!! I’m with you though—one day is good. I don’t like to be dirty and I don’t like to smell or be around people who smell. I’d love to be a free spirit….I just can’t….
